My Review

As an avid Star Wars fan, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the latest addition to the Thrawn Ascendancy series, “Thrawn Ascendancy Audiobook” by Marc Thompson. And the best part? It’s an audiobook free of charge! So, I immediately pre-ordered it and eagerly dived into the story.

However, I must admit that this installment of the Thrawn series didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The plot seemed to stray from the dynamic I had anticipated, leading me to a backwoodsville called Chisstuckey with peculiar aliens that didn’t quite captivate my interest. It was a bit disappointing, especially after having listened to the entire Thrawn collection in anticipation of this book.

One of the main gripes I had with this audiobook was the absence of Thrawn for a significant portion of the story. As a fan, I expected to be immersed in the tactical brilliance and complexity of his character, but instead, I found myself waiting for his reappearance. In fact, I had to listen to the audiobook twice just to make sure I didn’t miss anything vital that may have been overlooked in the first hour.

Additionally, I can’t help but feel that Disney may be exerting too much influence on Timothy Zahn, the author of the Thrawn series. While the first Thrawn book in the canon series was exceptional, subsequent releases have left me underwhelmed. It seems like the overall direction of the characters is slowly deteriorating, and I’m left questioning what we’re building towards.

That being said, as a dedicated fan, I will undoubtedly continue supporting the series and eagerly anticipate the next book. I sincerely hope that in future installments, we get to witness Thrawn’s tactical brilliance fully unleashed, as he faces a formidable enemy rather than engaging in subterfuge behind the backs of mayors.
