The story of Ravaged Land takes an interesting turn as it combines elements of a story reset and a continuation of the existing plot. The first half of the audiobook introduces a fresh perspective by returning to the real world and featuring a time jump. This provides a new and intriguing dimension to the story, especially when the main character (MC) gains new powers and allies upon his return to the Realms.

However, as the audiobook progresses past the 50% mark, things start to go back to normal as the MC reunites with his old friends. While there is some fallout from the time lost on Earth, I must admit that I was a bit disappointed that more significant challenges didn’t arise during the MC’s absence. It would have added an extra layer of excitement to see him face bigger setbacks. Instead, the story almost feels as if the time jump didn’t happen in some respects.

Although the plot could have been more impactful, the rest of the audiobook is filled with thrilling RPG action and adventure. The MC and his friends find themselves opposing new villains, the Light, alongside their ongoing battle against Aluran.
